The Tesoro Dance Guard will hold auditions for all students interested in participating in next years team. Incoming and current Tesoro students are welcome to join!  No experience is necessary! Congratulations to our WInter Dance Guard for placing second in the Regional AA  Division at the WGASC Show at the Woodbridge HS competition on Sunday March 24th..  This is a huge accomplishment for our team after being promoted to the Regional AA division this week. Their next performance will be at the WGASC Championships on April 20th.  

Course Description

The Tesoro Winter Dance Guard is open to students who would like to develop and advance their skills and techniques in dance and the pageantry arts. The Dance Guard is planning to participate in the Winter Guard Association of Southern California (WGASC) competition circuit shows.  After the WGASC final competition the Dance Guard will spend the rest of the semester preparing for the Fusion Show and the 2013 Fall Guard auditions.

All members must enroll in the 7^thperiod Auxiliary Band/Dance Guard class. The class meets twice a week after school. (See attached calendar)  Students will receive 5 P.E. credits for participation in the Auxiliary Band class.

Grading

Grades in the 7^thperiod Auxiliary Band class will be based on the following criterion:

Participation   30%    Attend all practices, have all materials and be productive in class with a cooperative and positive attitude.

Performances   50%     Attend ALL performances.

Skills/Routine tests   20%     Students will be tested periodically on skills and routine proficiency.

Donations - The Dance Guard activity is funded entirely by the voluntary donations made by our participants.  Expenses for Dance Guard include coaching, uniforms, equipment and tournament entry fees.  This semester we are suggesting that each member make a voluntary contribution of $550. 

Donation schedule - We must know prior to the start of the second semester if we will have enough contributions to fund a competitive Dance Guard so we are hoping to collect enough $550 donations by January 22, 2013.  Please make checks payable to Tesoro Music Booster and send them in as soon as you are able.

Please note that the Constitution of the State of California requires that we provide a public education to you free of charge. Your right to a free education is for all school/educational activities, whether curricular or extracurricular, and whether you get a grade for the activity or class.  Subject to certain exceptions, your right to a free public education means that we cannot require you or your family to purchase materials, supplies, equipment or uniforms for any school activity, nor can we require you or your family to pay security deposits for access, participation, materials, or equipment. So instead we ask for this voluntary contribution from each participant and plan that all families will do what they can to contribute to our goals.
