Mr. Cogan is an 18 year science teacher for Capistrano Unified School District who has taught Biology, Astronomy, Coordinated Science, Health, CECA (Computers and Career exploration), and chemistry. He initially taught science for 4 years at Capo Valley High School before coming to Tesoro when the school opened in 2001. This coming year he is teaching all Biology. Mr. Cogan is also now a life coach with an ACG (ADD Coach Academy Graduate) certification and private practice after school hours, who specializes in coaching teens and adults with ADD and ADHD challenges and individuals facing adversity following the loss of a limb or physical disability. Mr. Cogan believes all students can succeed if they understand their brain and learning style, focus on their strengths, practice lifestyle strategies that provide optimal brain function, remove stressors that get in the way, and develop, academic, organizational, and time management strategies to help achieve their goals. He was an adjunct faculty member for National University from 2001-2009 during the time he has taught at Tesoro.  He taught teaching methodology and health for teachers online part-time in their School of Education. He has a Bachelor's Degree in Biology from UC Irvine and Masters Degree in Public Health, Epidemiology from San Diego State University. Before going into teaching, Mr. Cogan briefly worked for the San Diego County Health Department on a grant to track immunizations, as a clinical trials auditor for a pharmaceutical company, and as a healthcare analyst for a PPO health plan in Los Angeles. He is a full right leg amputee of 35 years and successfully takes on life challenges with and without a prosthesis. His motto is if I can do it, you can do it. Steve is married, has a 2 1/2 year old baby boy, has an older daughter in college, and when he is not teaching or coaching, he enjoys performing as a singer/songwriter guitarist, snow skiing, cycling, swimming, kayaking, travelling, wood working, and exploring nature.
