For all 4-year colleges, the SAT Test or ACT Test is required.

 

The UC system no longer requires the SAT Subject Tests for admissions eligibility; however, certain disciplines within the UC system may use SAT Subject Tests for selectivity.
 

Private colleges and out of state universities may still require SAT Subject Tests for admissions eligibility. It is recommended that you check with specific colleges for requirements.

 

Freshman Year:

  • PSAT (practice test):  Funded by CUSD for all freshman students to take in the fall.

  • SAT Subject Tests:  Take the SAT Subject Tests in June (check with specific colleges for requirements). Register online with the College Board at: www.collegeboard.com.

 

Sophomore Year:

  • PSAT (practice test): Funded by CUSD for all sophomore students to take in the fall.

  • PreACT:  Take the practice PreACT Test in the Fall for preparation for the ACT Test.

  • SAT Subject Tests:  Take the SAT Subject Tests in June (check with specific colleges for requirements). Register online with the College Board at: www.collegeboard.com.

  • Practice ACT & SAT Tests:  Take a full-length practice test under realistic testing conditions in the spring.

  • Advanced Placement (AP):  These tests are taken in May. Students in AP classes prepare for these subject-oriented exams during the entire school year. Register at school in February.

 

Junior Year:

  • PSAT (official):  Take this test in the Fall. The National Merit Scholarships are linked to this exam.
    Funded by CUSD for all juniors to take in the fall.

  • Practice ACT & SAT Tests:  Take a full-length practice test under realistic testing conditions in the spring.

  • ACT:  Official test that includes English, mathematics, reading, science reasoning, and essay (optional). Register online with the ACT at:  www.act.org.

  • SAT:  Official test that includes English, mathematics, and essay (optional). Register online with the College Board at:   www.collegeboard.com.

  • SAT Subject Tests:  Take the SAT Subject Tests in June (check with specific colleges for requirements).  Register online with the College Board at:   www.collegeboard.com.

  • Advanced Placement (AP):  These tests are taken in May. Students in AP classes prepare for these subject-oriented exams during the entire school year. Register at school in February.

 

Senior Year:

  • Senior year should be left for score improvement on the SAT Test and/or ACT and SAT Subject Tests (check with specific college for requirements). All testing should be completed in December.  Important Note:  While many colleges will allow you to take exams up to the November and December test dates, check with the colleges to which you are applying to determine their policies and deadlines.
