Detention
• Students are assigned detentions by teachers and are expected to serve them accordingly. Students are considered a “no-show” if they are not in the room, in a seat, and quiet by the starting time of detention. A student who is considered a “no-show” will automatically be assigned an Afternoon School detention.
• A student may be dismissed by the teacher for poor behavior. In that event, the student will be assigned an Afternoon School for poor behavior.
AfternoonSchoolDetention
All Afternoon School and/or Saturday School detentions must be served to go to any dance. Additionally, all school fines must be cleared (cash only). Students will be checked for fines and may be denied attendance if not cleared prior to the event.
• Afternoon School detention is held in the CSI room after school (or in the morning on Late Start Wednesdays). A student must be in the room, in a seat and quiet by 7 minutes after the dismissal bell or he/she will be considered a “no-show” and automatically assigned two Afternoon School detentions (or one full day in CSI). It is understood in the Afternoon School detention notice that this is the consequence for a “no show.” Continuous detention defiance could result in student placed on a Behavior Contract with increased consequences.
• Once an Afternoon School detention is assigned, after the first 24 hours, only a parent may change the date for a valid reason (e.g., medical, funeral, court appointment). Students may not change an Afternoon School to accommodate a work schedule, co/extra curricular activity, or an athletic practice or contest.
• A student may be released by the Afternoon School manager for poor behavior. In that event, he/she will be assigned one full day in CSI (or two Afternoon School detentions) to make up for each day of poor behavior in Afternoon School.
• Students are expected to bring school-work to their assignment and be working on it during the assignment.
• Students may be asked to complete certain assignments, campus beautification projects (voluntary) or other tasks as assigned, as part of Afternoon School service, especially if they have not brought work of their own.
• To miss for illness, the student must have been ill for more than one period that day for an Afternoon School to be reassigned.
SaturdaySchoolDetention
All Afternoon School and/or Saturday School detentions must be served to go to any dance. Additionally, all school fines must be cleared (cash only). Students will be checked for fines and may be denied attendance if not cleared prior to the event.
• Saturday School detention is held in a classroom from 8 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. on various Saturdays. No student will be admitted after 8:00 a.m. Students must be in the room, in a seat and quiet by 8:00 a.m. or will be considered a “no-show.” The student will automatically be assigned two Saturday Schools (or one full day in CSI) and a step on the Behavior Contract. It is understood in the Saturday School notice that this is the consequence for a “no-show.”
• A student may be released by the Saturday School manager for poor behavior. In that event, the student will be assigned one full day in CSI (or two Saturday Schools).
• Students are expected to bring school-work to Saturday School and be working on it during the assignment.
• Students may be asked to complete certain assignments, campus beautification projects (voluntary) or other tasks as assigned, as part of Saturday School service, especially if they have not brought work of their own.
CSI (Center for Special Instruction)
- CSI is held in the CSI room every day. Students must be in the room, in a seat and quiet by the beginning of the school day or will be considered in defiance of authority and automatically assigned a home suspension. There is no staff available to escort students who do not show but are present in class.
- Students can expect to do some campus beautification projects (voluntary) as part of their day.
- Students are expected to bring school-work to CSI and be working on it during the assignment.
- Students may be asked to complete certain assignments, campus beautification projects (voluntary) or other tasks as assigned, as part of CSI assignment, especially if they have not brought work of their own.
- Students are expected to complete any projects, written or otherwise, assigned to them while in CSI.
- A student may be removed by the CSI manager for poor behavior. In that event, the student will be sent home immediately and assigned a home suspension to make up for his/her poor behavior.
- CSI ends at the end of a full school day (after 5th or 6th period) regardless of the student’s schedule serving the CSI.
- Parents may not excuse students from CSI during the day. If a parent must release his/her student, that student will be assigned an entire day in CSI regardless of the time already spent in CSI.
***NOTE: Notices for Afternoon School, Saturday School and CSI are sent home at each intervention as an attempt to communicate with parents or guardians. The school acknowledges that the letter/notice may not get home before the assignment date. Although it is the school’s desire that parents be given notice before the assignment date, some situations occur when this is not possible. However, the student is notified of the consequences before he/she is expected to serve, which is evident by the student’s signature and date on the notice that he/she is expected to carry home.
- Any year-end unserved discipline consequences will carry over to the next school year (and/or summer) with the possibility of increased consequences. Students may reduce their time commitment by completing summer beautification projects.
