Academic Integrity

Definitions:

 

Violation of Academic Integrity includes but is not limited to:

Copying another student’s work, including electronic and visual mediums

Copying an author’s work without citation

Submitting copied information from the Internet

If instructed to work independently, working in pairs or groups

Asking for or disclosing test-related material

Recycling previous work

Using or possessing “crib” or “cheat” notes

Knowingly participating in, or contributing to, the academic dishonesty of another student

Dishonest actions reported by the teacher

Using calculators when instructed not to

No sharing of electronic devices (including calculators) during text/quizzes (without prior

            approval from the instructor)

Placing your paper so other students can copy your answers/permitting another

student to copy your work

Having visible access to a cellular phone or other electronic device anytime during the

            testing period or quiz period

 

Plagiarism, which is copying work from another source and submitting it as one’s own work, included, but not limited to:

Copying another student’s work or previously published material or ideas from any source and

      submitting them as one’s own

Allowing a student to copy one’s work

Intentionally or unintentionally leaving your written work available in a place that makes it

      possible for someone to copy, sending it electronically to someone, or lending someone a

      notebook, a paper, or disk that contains your written work

Altering words or the order of words from another source and submitting them as one’s own

Submitting work written by college students, former students, tutors, friends, or adults

as one’s own

Submitting work as one’s own that was produced by unauthorized collaboration on assignments

            designed to be completed independently

 

 

ALL THE  FOLLOWING CONSEQUENCES APPLY FOR ALL CLASSES A STUDENT IS ENROLLED IN FOR THE ENTIRE SCHOOL YEAR.

 (this is per year not per class)


 

 

Consequences:

 

            1st Offense:

Referral to Assistant Principal

Parent contact by Assistant Principal and teacher

Academic Integrity Contract established with signatures by parent/guardian and

     student indicating understanding of consequence for further offenses

Discipline consequence = minimum Saturday School

Zero points and/or Fail grade on assignment

Unsatisfactory mark on report card in citizenship for semester

Recorded in student’s THS permanent discipline file

 

            2nd Offense:

Referral to Assistant Principal

Parent contact by Assistant Principal and teacher

Discipline consequence = 3 day home suspension

0/F on assignment, “U” on semester report card in citizenship,

     recorded in permanent file

Parent conference with student, parent, teacher, and Assistant Principal

Removal/ineligibility from scholarship clubs

Ineligible for school sponsored scholarships (CSF/NHS etc.)

Ineligibility from all extra curricular participation (90-school days)

Ineligibility from athletic competition (1 calendar year)

 

            3rd Offense:

Referral to Assistant Principal

Parent contact by Assistant Principal and teacher

Discipline consequence = 5 day home suspension

0/F on assignment, “U” on semester report card in citizenship,

     recorded in permanent file

Involuntary transfer recommendation to Serra High School for 1 year

     (in the event that a transfer recommendation is not carried through,

     all consequences of the 2nd offense still apply)

 

 

Severity ClauseConsequences may be accelerated depending upon the severity of the incident(s)
